Meet our K-2 Teachers

Ms. Hasanat is our Kindergarten teacher.

Born and raised in Chicago Mrs. Hansen is a proud graduate of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Upon finishing high school at Lane Tech she immediately felt the need to give back to a school system that gave so much to her. She attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where she received a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Through teaching she strives to develop the whole child on social-emotional and academic levels. She believes whole-heartedly that early childhood years are the most formative in guiding children through the complex social interactions they face with their peers in the years to come. In creating a cooperative learning environment, students actively engage in learning from and with one another. Students are seen and taught on their academic and social levels to assist them in reaching their full potentials.

In first grade, students learn about countries around the world through each unit of inquiry. Throughout the school year first graders engage in an in-depth investigation of Canada with particular focus on Toronto. In the 2009-2010 school year student focus was heightened as a result of the Winter Olympic Games held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Students study location, climate, economy, schools, communi ties and people.
